Nowadays there are as many ways of living and living together as there are people in the world and we firmly believe that it is homes that should adapt to people and their needs and not the other way round
Perhaps that is why this project, designed by the interior design studio Agencement Concept Tendance and realised by our distributor LG Agencement, captivated us from the start. It is not a family kitchen, but one designed for a coliving.
WeLiving is a very special accommodation. It is located inside a spectacular mansion in the centre of the French city of Caen and has 10 rooms. It is designed to accommodate entrepreneurs who want to stay here for one night or up to nine months.
With such special inhabitants, the kitchen could not be just any old kitchen. What's more, from the management of the accommodation, they conceived this space as the heart of the coliving, the perfect place for coexistence and the creation of close moments among the guests. As well as being fully equipped, of course.
Let's see in detail how they have solved this challenge.
A fluid space
If you want life to flow, you need a fluid space. It's clear, isn't it? Logically, the WeLiving kitchen had to be designed on the basis of the open concept.
Thus, kitchen and dining room go hand in hand in the same room. The high ceilings and the huge windows, typical of a construction of this type, stand out in this room, as well as the vegetation that appears from the outside, but we will focus on this later on.
Looking at the layout, the designers of this project have opted for an option that is as simple as it is useful: to delimit the kitchen and dining areas by installing a large central island. This is dedicated almost entirely to serving as a table, so it acts as a perfect nexus and at the same time provides more interaction options for the residents (remember, 10 people who may not yet know each other or who, from time to time, may need their space).
To further emphasise this separation, a different type of flooring has been laid under the island, in the style of the old hydraulic floors.
Functional layout
Inside the kitchen, in addition to the island, we find a double L-shaped or U-shaped layout.
From left to right, in this U we find two continuous lines of base units in which the glass ceramic hob has been arranged, as well as the small electrical appliances that are most used on a daily basis (coffee machines and kettles). As we move forward, we find a large amount of storage space until we reach the sink and dishwasher.
Above these units, the corner area has been used for wall units. However, above the sink, shelves have been installed to make it easier for guests to find everyday kitchenware.
On the right-hand side of this U they have installed an impressive set of floor-to-ceiling units with a large storage capacity, oven and microwave in a tall unit and the fridges in a panel.
nothing is missing!
Bright and welcoming
For the finishes, we have chosen the timeless combination of white, which can be found in all the furniture, and wood, present in the worktop.
The aim has been, on the one hand, to enhance the natural light and the feeling of cleanliness (essential for the coexistence of so many people); or the warmth and cosiness of the natural materials, which we also find in all the chairs and stools.
To give the final touch to this atmosphere comes nature. In addition to the one that surrounds this space from the outside behind the windows, small plants have been included to replicate this sensation in the interior.
what do you think of the result?
