Designing a kitchen involves constantly making decisions: layout, colour, finishes, handles, accessories, cladding, electrical appliances, flooring..
It may seem that the complicated part ends when we finish with all the elements that need to be installed because "at least the rest are things you can easily change", and that is true. However, this does not make them any easier to choose or any less important for the final result.
Lamps, chairs, tables, curtains and decorative objects are not only essential when it comes to creating an ambience, but they can also take us from a beautiful kitchen to an impressive one.
In this article we want to focus on kitchen tables, a more complicated element to choose than it may seem at first glance, especially in open-concept rooms.
Here are some original ideas from our dealers to inspire you.
Back to basics
Let's start with a basic among basics: the rectangular wooden table. Its great advantages are:
- Timelessness. We have been seeing them in our kitchens and dining rooms for as long as we can remember and we still can't get enough of them.
- Durability. Good thing they are timeless, because they are very durable and resistant as they are made of solid wood. Maintenance is simply a matter of applying a protective treatment from time to time.
- Versatility. They match almost any style and are comfortable for any activity, not just for sitting down to eat. Who hasn't done their homework, crafts or sewing on one of these?

We can find this table in many variations, as in the case of this Sistema Cuina project. The classic oak table has been redesigned with thicker legs and concealed crossbars to give it a more contemporary look:

We can also go the other way and find lighter designs. This table, included in a project by our distributor f.alba, has thinner legs and is set at a slight angle to the floor for a lighter look:

An industrial twist
We continue with tables with a solid and robust look, but with a clear industrial twist. We're talking about tables with wooden tops and black-painted metal legs. You've probably seen them in a thousand kitchens and restaurants, but they may have gone unnoticed.
And that is one of their great pros: their simple and discreet design means that they blend in without attracting too much attention, but they add a unique touch of character.

Round tables
We continue with a type of table surrounded by legend. The story goes that King Arthur used to gather his knights around a round table so that in important conversations everyone could see each other and everyone's arguments would have the same relevance.
Although not as mystical, round tables are ideal for homes where you want to live life in company and in close proximity: all diners have the same space and conditions at this type of table.
They also provide less visual weight than square or rectangular tables, and there are a thousand designs and materials to choose from. For example, this white microcement table that Nobo Estudio included in this kitchen assembled by our distributor Nivel 2 Muebles:

If you are looking for something more discreet and accessible, but still stylish, you can also opt for a round table made entirely of solid wood. An option that will look good in almost any kitchen:

Your imagination, the limit
can't find anything that fits your style? Try creating it! A great example of this can be found in this project by the interior designer Agostina D Alo and the architect and distributor of OB Cocinas Studio Daless, in which they have adapted an antique table to create this marvel:
