We can’t make your kitchen bigger, but we can share some tricks to make it seem larger than it is.
Open it up to the living room
This isn’t always possible due to the placement of these two rooms within the home; but if your kitchen is small and shares a wall with the living room, our advice is to knock down that wall and expand your horizons. Yes, the kitchen will still have the same square footage, but the feeling you get inside it will be completely different.

Use light colors
It never fails. Using light colors is one of the easiest ways to visually expand a space. In the case of the kitchen, you don’t have to limit yourself to the furniture; we also recommend applying these tones to floors, walls, and ceilings. You’ll see how it makes all the difference!
Oh! And don’t forget that there’s more to life than white. Light grays and shades of beige will also help create a feeling of spaciousness. And why not, the lightest tones of wood finishes too?
Embrace minimalism
As we mentioned in our article Three Styles, Three Drawer Fronts: opting for a minimalist style for your cabinet doors and fronts will help your kitchen appear larger. So say goodbye to handles and fronts with moldings, reliefs, or textures.
As an extra tip that will also significantly increase storage capacity, we suggest installing floor-to-ceiling cabinets. If we opt for a white finish or one the same color as the rest of the walls, it will blend in and appear not to take up any space.

Wall Shelves Instead of Tall Cabinets
Depending on the kitchen layout, tall cabinets might not be the best way to make it seem larger, as they can visually shrink the space.
For these situations, we suggest replacing tall cabinets with open shelving. These are typically narrower than traditional cabinets and create a more spacious feel, making the room appear larger. You can use them to store frequently used items like dishes and glasses. And if these items are attractive, they’ll add a relaxed touch to the entire decor!
Unobtrusive Appliances
This is one of the trends that will continue to be very popular this year. Integrating appliances is now a must in kitchen design, as it creates visual continuity.
In this regard, pay special attention to the range hood you choose, as it’s usually at eye level and can therefore be more visually disruptive. Opt for integrating them into a cabinet or, if the layout allows, recess them into the ceiling or incorporate them into the cooking area.
Everything in its place
Nothing creates a greater sense of spaciousness than order. Besides being easier to clean and much more efficient, an organized kitchen will make it seem much larger.
In the case of open cabinets or wall shelves, we recommend opting for uniformity. That is, if you use them to store food, instead of using the packaging it comes in, you can transfer its contents to containers of the same shape and size.
